Hello world!

March 30th, 2008

This is an experimental blog to determine the usefulness of offering office systems tips. I’ve been working with small to medium sized businesses throughout Northland for quite some time and realise there are so many ways to achieve the same end result – and some of those ways are faster and easier than others.  Perhaps together we can improve your paper management?

Are you ready for the financial year end? Have you got a file together with all the papers needed by your accountant?  Do you even know what they need?  Its a great idea to have one place to keep all those papers needed for your tax returns – perhaps a ring binder with category tabs.  Some of the things you’ll need to have ready:

  • Copies of any new financial contracts, leases, hire purchase agreements entered into during the year
  • Detailed records of any assets purchased or sold
  • Copies of your bank statements – reconciled, of course
  • Back up copy of your accounting program (some offer ‘accountant’s copy’)
  • A summary of your debtors and creditors at the 31st of March

There are lots more things you’ll need – a good accounting firm will provide a check list – but think how much easier it will be to have this set to start using at the beginning of the year instead of trying to gather bits and pieces in a mad rush at tax time?
